Rules for Indoor 6's Lacrosse

1. Team Composition
- 6 Players per Team: Each team has 6 players on the field at any given time. This includes:
- 1 goalie
- 5 fieldmen
- There are no long poles (i.e., defenders cannot use long sticks), which makes for a faster, more open game.
- teams will consist of 8-15 players
2. Game Duration
- The game is played in four 10-minute quarters
- Running clocks will used during season
- Overtime will be conducted as soon as the fourth quarter ends, first goal wins.
3. Faceoffs
- The game begins with a faceoff at the start of each quarter. After a goal is scored, the game is restarted by the goalie resetting the ball into play.
- The faceoff rules are similar to those in field lacrosse, where two players battle for possession at the center of the field.
- No motor-cycle grip will be allowed, one knee down is acceptable
4. Scoring
- A goal is worth 1 point.
- Goalies will reset ball into play after a goal is scored on him.
5. Shot Clock
- The shot clock will be for 45 seconds
- If the attacking team does not attempt a shot within the time limit, possession is awarded to the opposing team.
6. Substitutions
- On-the-fly substitutions are allowed, meaning players can enter and exit the field during live play, similar to hockey. The league understands that transistions could cause more than 6 players on the field at one time, so long as the off coming player does infact get off after their replacement comes on no penalty will be called.
7. Defensive Rules
- Defenders: In 6’s lacrosse, defenders will use short poles (traditional lacrosse sticks) rather than long poles.
- No crease violations: The goalie is not restricted to the crease and can leave it to help with defense or transition.
- Checking: stick checks, are allowed, but they are meant to be controlled and non-dangerous. Checks will be evaluated at a strict degree to ensure safety while using the indoor fields. ANY usage of the boards to check will be a 1 minute non-releaseable penalty to ensure safety of the players.
- Body Checking is illegal in this style of play
- Remember, we are here to have fun playing lacrosse not get hurt. keep checks to a minimum to ensure safe play and less penalties.
8. Penalties
- A player committing a foul will serve a penalty, typically 1 minute for minor infractions (like slashing or holding). This leads to a man-down situation for the offending team.
- If the opposing team scores during the penalty, the penalty time is over (referred to as a releaseable penalty).
- Major penalties (e.g., fighting or dangerous play) may result in 3-minute penalties and a more severe impact on team dynamics.
9. Goalie Play
- The goalie can leave the crease area and participate in clearing the ball or even assisting in the attack. However, they must be careful not to violate goalie-specific rules (like entering the attacking zone without the ball).
- A goalkeeper's crease is still present, but the goalie is not limited to it as much as in traditional field lacrosse.
- Goalies CAN pass mid field to score, one player must stay back for an off sides call to no be called
